33 Weeks and counting

Hey guys,

So I’m not 33 weeks and counting down the days until I get to meet my little princess. I have to tell you, it’s been dam tough! The sickness, the sleepless nights, the back pain, the pelvis pain, everything has been really hard, but I haven’t given up exercising.

No instead I have embraced it more, It’s helped me mentally get through this pregnancy. I say that I have done more exercise but it’s not been without it’s struggles. I know that my motivation has wavered sometimes and I have had to really give myself that mental pep talk. But once at the gym or in the pool, my mood soon changes and I know I am in my happy place.

Which got me thinking …

How many of you are in a job that you don’t particularly enjoy, you go to work to pay the bills and as soon as you enter the door you thank god that the day is over. Putting my hand up right here! It sucks, I want to be coming home and saying to my partner “I’ve had the best day”, I want him to tell me top shut up as I’m blabbing on! I want to enjoy what I do.

So that’s what I’m going to do, I’m going to make a change and actually do something that makes me happy. I want to be mentally happy and motivated everyday and I think that’s the message I want to send to you guys today .. Do what makes you happy. Whether that is training, reading, writing, being in the outdoors, baking, anything, but today I want you to do what makes you happy, because when it all comes down to it, that’s what life is all about.

Have a happy Saturday guys

The struggle is real

Well I have got to be honest exercising in this heat seems unbearable sometimes, especially when you really just want to sit in a bucket of ice!

That aside, the other thing I have been struggling with lately is the weight I have gained. Now unfortunately it is inevitable that when having a baby you are going to gain weight, and if I am being totally honest it is something I have struggled with.

You see I’m one of these people that because of the exercise I do, I very rarely gain weight, that is unless I decide to have a complete fat week and eat the entire domino’s chain! But it’s not often. Now I am having to accept the fact that my body is changing and no matter how much exercise I do, I am going to gain baby weight. And do you know what ladies … IT SUCKS. It’s hard realising that the little ass you used to have now is a huge thing that needs its own postcode, or the size 10 shorts I used to wear now laugh at me when I look at them. And the hair bobble trick is now fully in use! yes I am using hair bobbles to buckle my pants together.

The struggle is real!!!

All of the above are happening to my once toned body and I am struggling to accept that this is what happens when you have a child! So if people say to you, I only gained 10lbs then good for them, but everyone is different and we have to accept that. Listen to me hey, I really need to practice what I preach on this one but I do know that even though I may have gained weight, I will have a lovely healthy baby and my body will find it easier to snap back into shape once I have given birth.

So, ladies, my beautiful women, I assure you, if you feel that you are going it alone and gaining unwanted weight during pregnancy then I am with you!

The main thing is carry on with your healthy eating and exercising and try and accept that your body will change and them unwanted pounds will creep on but it is not forever!

Let me know how you’ve been getting on with your pregnancy and weight gain

Rest days! Don’t deny yourself

Hey there fellow bloggers,

I have to send my apologies as I haven’t posted anything for a while due to being unwell. Last week I hit exhaustion and had to visit the doctor, now normally I wouldn’t bother but being pregnant I thought I probably should go and get checked out. Anyway cut a long story short, the doctor told me that I do too much and with working 2 jobs my body was exhausted. I did ask the doctor about the amount of exercise I am doing and whether that would have an effect and although she said I needed to make sure I was giving my body the sufficient time to rest, she also said that exercise would only have positive benefits!!!!!!!

So last week I decided to take it easy, I had a week off the gym but still couldn’t fully rest as I am not wired like that! I have to be doing something, sitting at home all day “putting my feet up” gives me cabin fever. So I walked! I ended up walking 35 miles over the week and by the end of the week I felt better rested than I had in a long time.

The point of this post is to ensure you that having a rest day is ok and I would encourage it. Without resting, your muscles don’t have the time they need to recover, repair and get stronger. Also you need to rest so you can fully enjoy your workouts, if you are constantly exhausted from working out then you’re not going to work as hard, because you don’t have the energy, and it’s going to become a chore for you to do it rather than something you enjoy.

Resting doesn’t have to mean sitting on your ass and stuffing your face with cake! No, resting can mean taking a day off from the gym or running but still going on a long stroll. Your body will tell you when it needs time to rest and you need to LISTEN to it, otherwise you will burn yourself out.

Ever heard of the expression “you can’t burn the candle at both ends”, yeah well this also applies to working out. Be careful not to over do it, you’ll do yourself more harm than good if you don’t rest!

In the words of Beyonce “LISTEN”, you’re body loves you, love it back.

Take care guys

Nobody likes to snuggle a stick!

Due to social media and ‘celebrities’ (I say this in quotation marks as my view of a celebrity is far different from that of the media), most women are under a false illusion that for you to have ‘the perfect’ body you need to be a size 2! WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.

This is an absolutely horrific message to send out to the nation. Firstly, I’m sure you’ve all heard the saying ‘nobody likes to snuggle a stick’ well seriously go outside and grab a stick, cuddle it and see how it feels! Not great hey?

As women we come in all shapes and sizes, being a size 14 doesn’t mean you are unfit, crikey not at all. Some women are born curvy, some are born slight but we were not born to starve ourselves to fit in with a completely blinkered nation of barbies. It’s not natural!

My blog and my aim going forward is to empower women, yes I talk about fitness and weight loss, does that mean I am saying you are unfit if you aren’t a certain size? No. My workout advice, fitness posts and insights are to help you understand that you can be so fit and healthy without tormenting yourself to become the average Kardashian.

Being fit is about the strength your body has, the wellbeing of your insides and your mental state of mind. People exercise and get into fitness for all types of reasons. You can get into fitness because it releases them happy endorphins, because you feel slightly out of shape and would like to feel fitter, to enhance how much activity you can do with your children or because your workout is time for YOU. Whatever the reason it’s a good one, but please don’t start working out ridiculously because you want to look like a celebrity, you are beautiful as you, people love you for you and as long as you love your body in the right way then it WILL love you back!

Everybody has a certain goal they want to achieve and that is perfectly fine, the overall aim is to achieve this goal in a healthy way. Don’t go into starvation mode if you haven’t lost the weight you expected to in the first week, it’s not the end of the world. If you want to achieve your goal and sustain your goal then make fitness part of your lifestyle. Do not think to be beautiful and sexy you have got to be skinny because you don’t. Your bone structure may mean you are broader than that of another woman.

I remember when I went down to a size 8, I thought I looked brilliant, my partner tells me otherwise! Seriously, he doesn’t like it and now neither do I. Before becoming pregnant I was a healthy size 10 and I looked in proportion. Unlike before, I have learnt that I love my body and when I take care of myself I seem to shine even more. I don’t have to be a size 8 to look good, I have to feel good from the inside.

Be fit for your mind, be fit for your heart, be fit for you, not for a social image.

In a world of Kardashians, be a Diana.

Walk of the weight!

You don’t have to be an olympic gold medalist to be fit, you don’t need to run 5 miles a day, heck you don’t even need to be part of a gym.

Recently I’ve taken to walking a lot more. I was probably in the region of 30 miles a week and that’s without exerting myself. This could be walking to the supermarket rather than driving, walking to work or going on a countryside walk with your four legged friends.

I love it, being in the fresh air and taking in nature is amazing and the fact that I’m burning calories at the same time makes me that little bit happier. Now depending on the pace of your walk and the incline you can usually burn around 100 calories per mile. So if you walk 3 miles then you’ve probably burnt off the majority of your breakfast.

You see the point I want to make to all of my readers is that you don’t have to be a fitness fanatic like me to be fit. you’ll be amazed that if you start walking a couple of times a week the pounds will start to drop off.

I mean really why would you want to sit on the sofa when you could be in the outdoors? Like I said you don’t have to exert yourself but jumping on your feet and walking will help.

Always remember during any form of exercise keep hydrated and make sure you are eating a balanced diet 🙂

Fitness fanatic

So as you know by now, I love fitness. Fitness is my ultimate passion and eventually I would love to have a career based around fitness, the only problem I find is I’m skeptical about things, the usual stuff not getting enough followers, not getting enough business and failing.

However all of my worries still don’t stop me from doing what I love … working out!

I am, for better of words, obsessed with fitness. I find that the gym, the outdoors, the sweat dripping down my neck and my muscles aching from training are all things that take me to my happy place. Never have I come out of the gym and said “I feel worse after doing that”.

Fitness is probably the best therapy you can do for your mental health and your physical health. So don’t be afraid to start.

One thing I would really advise you guys to look at is the IQI FITNESS mini stepper which is available from Amazon at £34.99. If you are slightly nervous about starting out in the gym or you have little time available to get to the gym, then this little gizmo is the best thing for you to get your hands on. It’s compact and easy to use and you can step onto it whilst watching your favourite TV soap. Plus a simple 30 minute workout on this bad boy can see you burning up to 300 calories! Seriously! So instead of sitting on the couch stuffing your face with a doughnut you can be burning the calories with this little dream stepper.

I’m thinking of putting up videos of my workouts, would this be helpful to anyone? Let me! Also you can follow me on Facebook and on instagram for little tips.

Drop me an email if you fancy a chat about fitness, I’m always happy to help 🙂

Exercising whilst pregnant – It’s not a sin!

Ever since being pregnant by sugar cravings have spiralled out of control, yes I have become the cookie monster.

I eat more cake than a baker and that’s why I think it is so important to exercise. Now as pregnant women will know, the idea of exercise after a long day in work is like shaking hands with Hitler … not wanted, but it is still so important to keep active during pregnancy.

Now you’ve probably come across people saying ‘you shouldn’t be exercising’ or ‘that’s bad for the baby’, take it from me punch them in the throat! (Well not literally, but figuratively) Exercising when pregnant is excellent for you and the baby, if done in the right way.

Let’s have a look at the benefits of exercising whilst pregnant

  • Exercising makes it easier for you to get your figure back after the baby is born
  • By exercising you increase the strength of the baby’s heartbeat
  • You can have a better labour if you have kept active throughout your pregnancy
  • It reduces backache, yes ladies that god awful pain that makes you want to curl up in a ball, exercise can help with that!

And they are just a few, now I’m not suggesting you run a marathon or start training for a triathlon however if there is a swimming pool in your area then get your best swimsuit out and go for a swim. You will be amazed how much more energized you feel after you do a bit of exercise.

I swim twice a week with my partner and I love it, we also walk everywhere and yes I do still go to the gym.

If you want any advice with exercising whilst pregnant then contact me and I will try my best to give you the best advice I can 🙂
