So yesterday I felt really unwell, I mean sick, headaches and generally exhausted but I really didn’t want to get home from work and just sit on the couch as I know it would have made me worse! Now not everyone is the same, so please don’t think that just because I’m a fitness junkie, you have to be the same, you don’t and if you’re pregnant and having a hard time then it’s understandable that fitness may make you want to vom! But I promise, from experience that fresh air and gentle exercise will help! You can up the ante once you start feeling better.
So instead I decided to go for a walk with a friend, it wasn’t a power walk or anything too strenuous but it was still exercise and I wasn’t sat there stuffing my face and afterwards I felt 100% better!
So, you see, exercising doesn’t always have to be vigorous and 100 miles an hour, you can still burn calories as long as you are being active in some kind of way. Burning yourself out by doing extreme exercise everyday won’t help you in the long run as eventually your body will have to rest, and yes rest is good for you!
By resting, you allow your muscles the time they need to recover and believe me they need time. By giving them this rest period they will then be able to train just as hard the next time you use them.
If, like me, you are addicted to being active and find it physically impossible to sit still (my partner thinks I have ants in my pants) then rather than killing yourself working out hard 24/7 think about doing some less strenuous exercising like walking or swimming, play with the kids or go on the trampoline for a little while. Whatever you are doing on your feet is better than sitting on your bum!
Remember keeping fit and healthy is important but part of this is looking after yourself at the same time. Don’t over exert yourself too much.
